Happy New Year to you and yours! So while I went through some really amazing and devastating changes in 2017, you can read about them here, it’s now time to start put that all behind me and look to the future. In the past, I’ve tried to stay away from making New Year’s Resolutions. Instead I’ve tried to see where life takes me. Unfortunately for me, that didn’t work out so well. All it did was to highlight that I am the type of person who needs to set concrete goals and plans for myself, or I just kind of flounder. So today, I’m going back to my roots and creating some concrete ideas while I’m Ushering in a New Year | Ideas for 2018.
Health | My health has been suffering for the past few years. In late 2016, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. While the diagnosis was devastating, it wasn’t really surprising and pretty much just a matter of time. Well the sad part is that since the diagnosis, I’ve kind of just stuck my head in the sand. I haven’t really been managing it. I haven’t been taking my medication on a strict schedule and I haven’t really changed my eating habits. Now, while I can’t really cure diabetes, I can learn to live with it. A huge part of that means making some lifestyle changes, and I really have to get serious about it. I’m only 36 years old, and if I continue the way I’m going, I’ll be lucky if I see 46.
Blogging | For the past few years, I’ve been struggling with my blogging. I don’t like feeling pressured into doing something and that is what I have been feeling. I lost sight of just why I started blogging in the first place and got caught up in the machine of blogging. It has taken a long time for me to dig myself out of the whole I found myself in, but I’ve finally done it. The passion to blog is back! Blogging needs to happen with some consistency, but it also needs to be on my terms. I’m no longer that concerned with PR. Beauty, Brains + is going back to the basics and I’ll be blogging about things that interest me. That’s what made the blog popular in the first place. Does that mean that I won’t be doing any kind of PR? Not at all, but it needs to fit with the blog.
Career | This year is all about Career Development. I’m no longer just content to show up, do work and go home. I want to make a difference, and I want to feel like I’m getting something out of my career besides a pay cheque. I started a new job back in November 2017, and I’m loving it, I still think I could be doing more. Just what that ‘more’ is, I’m not really sure at this moment but I plan to use 2018 to figure it out.
Education | For someone who works in the field of Higher Education, I never went any higher than High School. Well I will be heading back to school this year to begin working on a Bachelor’s Degree. It may take me a while, but I’ll get it done.
Finances | I have to get smart with my money. Even though I make really good money, like so many others I’m living pay cheque to pay cheque. This really has to stop. I’ve been spending my money on stuff; stuff I don’t need at that. I need to start saving so I can do all the things I want to do.
Travel | I need to do some more traveling. I put off a lot of travel for the past few years while I was concentrating on saving for my house. Well in June, I’ll have been in the house for a year so I think I can get back to doing some travel again. I’m looking at taking two trips this year. One in the summer and one over the holidays in December. Now I’ve just gotta figure out where to go.
#PROJECTUSEITUP | If you ask any beauty blogger, they will tell you that they usually have more products than they can possibly use. We tend to give extra’s away in giveaways or to family and friends. It’s better to give them away than to have them going bad on your shelf. Well even though I give a lot of products away, I still have a ton sitting around. This year, I am starting what I am calling #projectuseitup. I am going to try to use up what I have. Now this doesn’t mean that I won’t be buying or recieving new products. It just means that stuff that I have that I have currently put to the side are actually going to get used. This includes all of those single use samples I tend to accumulate and have all over the place. It will be interesting to see if this is something I can actually accomplish.
So that’s it for me. Have any of you come up with resolutions for the new year? Leave me a comment and let me know.
