BLACK UP Black Smoky Palette

BLACK UP Black Smoky PaletteBLACK UP Cosmetics is not a new brand, but it is not a brand that gets talked about a lot; at least not here in North America.  They are based out of Paris, France and bill themselves as the “the luxury makeup artist brand for ethnic skin tones & women of colour yet suitable for all women“.  In North America, the brand is carried by Sephora and you can find a full contingent of products on the Sephora website.  When they first popped up in Sephora sometime last year, I was intrigued, but since I like being able to actually test the products before I buy them I held off on purchasing anything.  Luckily for me, I found the brand actually carried at at least two store locations here in Toronto; Scarborough Town Centre and Young & Eglinton.  It’s a good thing too, because I was able to get my hands on the BLACK UP Black Smoky Palette ($63 CAD), which I have had my eye on for sometime.

The palette contains a mix of twelve matte and shimmer shades that are perfect for a variety of smoky looks.  I’d been eyeing this palette for a while, but when I finally had the chance to see it in store I immediately bought it.  The pictures online don’t do this palette justice at all.  The shadow shades are stunning and way more vibrant than I was expecting.

The shadows themselves are pretty comparable in size to those found in the Urban Decay Naked Palettes.  Actually, they are probably a little larger.  The shades themselves are amazing and something WOC will absolutely appreciate.  They are deep and don’t come off as looking ashy on darker skin tones.  The shade combinations included in the palette also allow for a number of different smoky looks.

I do wish the shadows themselves actually had names instead of being numbered.  The Palette also comes with a shadow applicator that is pretty much useless.  I kind of wish brands didn’t include the applicators, because they are rarely if ever useful.  The shadows themselves are really good.  There is not a lot of fallout and they aren’t hard to work with at all.

Overall I am really happy with the BLACK UP Black Smoky Palette.  It is just so versatile and works so well.  Apologies for the lack of photos of the product in action, but I’m experiencing issues with my eyes at the moment that do not do well when photographed.
