The first of the Spring 2018 beauty reviews here on Beauty, Brains + is none other than the KAT VON D Metal Matte Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($53 CAD). Now I have pretty much missed any and all of the hype on Kat Von D products over the past few years. While they were nice, they just didn’t wow me or make want to spend my money on them. This is not the case when it comes to this very cute and pretty versatile palette. The mix of metallic and matte shades in this palette gives me the opportunity to try out both formulas on offer from the brand. The matte shadows are described as buttery, blendable and pigmented. The metallics are the best-selling shades from Kat Von D’s Metal Crush Eyeshadow formula. Either way, I’ve never tried either formula and this palette allows me to do just that.
The KAT VON D Metal Matte Mini Eyeshadow Palette contains 10 shades. 5 shades with a metallic finish and five with a matte finish The shades are listed below:
- Thunderstruck (metal)
- Bone (matte)
- Flash (metal)
- Feather (matte)
- Doce (metal)
- Suede (matte)
- Synergy (metal)
- Oak (matte)
- Raw Power (metal)
- Velvet (matte)
KAT VON D Metal Matte Mini Eyeshadow Palette
When you look at the palette right side up, it says the word metal on the front. Flip it upside down, and it says matte. While that is nothing more than a bit of a gimmick more than anything, it actually works in this case.
I love the size of the palette. It’s sleek and compact and will work really well for travelling. It’s not too clunky and will fit into your travel makeup bag really well.
The shades themselves are colour coordinated. I do appreciate that because it take all the guess work out of choosing colour combinations. My favourite shades are Flash and Doce. They aren’t very unique shades, but they sure are pretty.
Overall, I’m kind of on the fence about this one. While I love the formula and pigmentation of the matte shades, I’m not actually thrilled with the colours of the shades. They don’t really work for darker skintones. I would like to see this palette done again, but WOC friendly. The metallic shades are gorgeous, but I can’t really justify paying $53 CAD for a palette where half of the shades will get no use whatsoever.
